Learning Objectives:
- Construct and use a dichotomous key
- Recognise that animals and plants have many adaptations that enable them to survive within their environment
- Classify an organism depending on the adaptations it possesses to obtain its food
- Link organisms that live in a community into food chains, and food webs
- Explain why the number of links in a food chain is limited
- Describe the cycling of minerals e.g. carbon through a community
- Explain that factors influencing the number of organisms in one part of a food web may have an effect on other parts of the web
- Recognise that an ecosystem includes both biotic and abiotic factors
- Define the terms 'native', 'exotic/introduced' and recognise a sample of New Zealand native animals and plants.
- Discuss an ecological issue using bioethics.
