Year 9 Mainstream and Enrichment

Learning Objectives:

  1. Construct and use a dichotomous key
  2. Recognise that animals and plants have many adaptations that enable them to survive within their environment
  3. Classify an organism depending on the adaptations it possesses to obtain its food
  4. Link organisms that live in a community into food chains, and food webs
  5. Explain why the number of links in a food chain is limited
  6. Describe the cycling of minerals e.g. carbon through a community
  7. Explain that factors influencing the number of organisms in one part of a food web may have an effect on other parts of the web
  8. Recognise that an ecosystem includes both biotic and abiotic factors
  9. Define the terms 'native', 'exotic/introduced' and recognise a sample of New Zealand native animals and plants.
  10. Discuss an ecological issue using bioethics.
