HomeScience Faculty Year 9Courses9A.5 Patterns in Chemistry (Advanced)

Year 9 Mainstream and Enrichment

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognise that acids react with carbonates and metals
  2. Describe how indicators can be used to test for acids and bases
  3. Carry out the tests for oxygen, hydrogen and carbon dioxide
  4. Recall that hydrogen is produced when an acid and a reactive metal react
  5. Write word equations which correctly name the salts produced by different acids
  6. Recognise that some metals will not react with acids
  7. Recall that carbon dioxide is produced when an acid and a carbonate react
  8. Write a word equation for the reaction between an acid and a carbonate
  9. Carry out a neutralisation reaction
  10. Write a word equation for a reaction between an acid and a base
  11. Recognise and interpret the pH scale
  12. Make an indicator.
