Year 9 Units

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the range of knowledge included in science and why we learn it
  2. Develop a timeline of some of the major discoveries in Science
  3. Establish the rules for behaviour in a laboratory, with emphasis on safety
  4. Learn the rules for drawing scientific diagrams, and identifying and using lab equipment
  5. List the S.I. units and symbols for time, length, area, volume, speed, mass, temperature and force
  6. Interconvert the units for time, mass, volume and distance, using appropriate prefixes (e.g. mm, cm, m, km)
  7. Realise that the particles in solids, liquids and gases are arranged differently
  8. Describe the changes of energy when matter is heated or cooled
  9. Use the following terms to correctly describe changes in state – melting, evaporating, condensing, freezing and subliming
