Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the range of knowledge included in science and why we learn it
- Develop a timeline of some of the major discoveries in Science
- Establish the rules for behaviour in a laboratory, with emphasis on safety
- Learn the rules for drawing scientific diagrams, and identifying and using lab equipment
- List the S.I. units and symbols for time, length, area, volume, speed, mass, temperature and force
- Interconvert the units for time, mass, volume and distance, using appropriate prefixes (e.g. mm, cm, m, km)
- Realise that the particles in solids, liquids and gases are arranged differently
- Describe the changes of energy when matter is heated or cooled
- Use the following terms to correctly describe changes in state – melting, evaporating, condensing, freezing and subliming
