Aims: To allow students to investigate and develop their understanding of:
- The diversity, structure, function and inter-relationships of living organisms and their interactions with the non-living world
- Interactions between humans and their environment and how these are influenced by developments in biological knowledge and technology.
To allow students to further develop their scientific investigative skills and attitudes.
Description: The following content areas are covered:
- The organisation of two different communities.
- The structure and function of four human organ systems.
- Two plant processes, with associated structures and functions
Assessment: Both internal and external
Pre-requisites: The ability to work towards an examined qualification.
Leads on to: Biology 2, which has the entry requirement of 12 credits or more in Biology 1 or Science 1, and/or approval of the HOD.
Fees: To cover the cost of a field trip. A workbook is purchased.
