Learning Objectives

  1. Explain what our biosphere and our atmosphere are.
  2. Recognise the conditions in the air above us that cause our weather.
  3. Explain the terms warm front, cold front, isobars.
  4. Explain how day-to-day weather is forecast.
  5. Interpret a weather map.
  6. Understand what the water cycle is and its importance to life on earth
  7. Recognise that a large proportion of the energy on Earth comes from the sun and ends up as heat
  8. Explain how heat is transferred
  9. Distinguish between renewable and non-renewable resources
  10. Give examples of different fuels and their uses
  11. Describe environmental consequences of burning fuels
  12. Understand the carbon cycle
  13. Explain how greenhouse gases are formed, especially carbon dioxide through combustion of fuels and methane
  14. Understand how these gases contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming
  15. Explain the effects of global warming on earth and the impact upon future generations if it continues
  16. Consider some possible solutions to reduce global warming.
