Learning Objectives
- Define an element and introduce atom structure (nucleus, proton, neutron, electron).
- Describe the Periodic Table of Elements and recall where we find the metals, the non metals and the inert gases.
- Distinguish between pure substances (elements and compounds) and mixtures.
- Recognise formulae for the following chemical families. Acids; Bases; Oxides; Carbonates; Sulphates, Nitrates
- Explain the difference between physical and chemical change
- Write simple word equations for common chemical reactions
- Recall the physical properties of metals
- Describe the uses of different metals.
